The Black Bear lodge may be the highest lodging in Virginia. The last dwelling before entering the Mount Rodgers recreation area on Rt 600, Whitetop Road, the lodge is completely furnished and newly renovated with the classic lodge amenities. The natural stone fireplace is the focal point of the living room. Two bedrooms with a full bath are conveniently located on the first floor. The third bedroom with a half bath is located on the second floor adjoining a private porch. Surrounding the lodge is six acres of privacy and natural forest. Water falls provide an additional sense of tranquility.

  • From interstate 81, we are located about a 20 minute drive off Chilhowie exit.
  • The nearest airport is Tri-Cities in Kingsport, TN (approx. one hour drive).
  • Local attractions are historic Abingdon, Va and the famous Barter Theater, the Virginia Creeper Trail, High Country Horse Camp, Trout fishing, Appalachian Trail, and only an hour from Bristol Motor Speedway.
